Post-round write-ups from the commissioner

index TONAWANDA, NY - It was an exciting start to the inaugural Putter-In-Hand league as Tim Remy took an early lead in the standings after scoring an impressive 39, 5-strokes better than 2nd place finisher Tom Barbopolous, who bested Jay Flemming by tie-breaker (Barbopolous had a hole-in-one, Flemming did not). Remy was not only the only player to break 40, he was the only player to record 2 holes-in-one. Right behind the top-3 players sits 4 players tied for 4th. Jeff Luke, Brian Kimpel, Mark VeRost and Jim Neville all recorded a 45 and one hole-in-one each. Scott Wilson also shot a 45 but failed to record a hole-in-one after he lipped out his only close putt. Said to be the most competitive participant, Whitey Ondak shot a respectable 47 and surprisingly was a steady player by not recording anything worse than a 4. Not atop the leader-board is Joe Neeson and Steve Steck who both recorded a 50. Joe Mills was not happy after the round when he learned the rules of the league. Failing to read the the rules of the game, he thought the objective was to outscore your opponents, which he did after recording a 52. He vowed to improve his game next week now that he knows the rules. That's not everyone folks. Tim Roesch and Harald Rehm are in the back of the pack with some embarrassing scores. Despite both recording a hole-in-one, both players turned in a pathetic 54. Knowing the competitiveness of these two men, I'm certain they don't give a shit. So let's move on to some Fun Facts:
  • Average Score: 47
  • Total Holes-in-One: 11
  • Best Front-9: 21 - Remy
  • Best Back-9: 18 - Remy
  • Most Improved (front-to-back): -10 - Neeson
  • Back-9-Choke: +2 - Mills
  • 1st Hole-in-one: 6th hole - Luke
  • 3 holes-in-one were recorded on both the 9th and 18th holes
  • The only birdie on hole-1 was by VeRost
  • Roesch & Barbopolous recorded the only 6's
  • Jeff Kelly and Dean Trzewieczynski failed to show up and must make-up the round before next week's play. Standings can change as a reult of their scores.
  • Dean did show up after for drinks and food. JK not so much.
And finally, unconfirmed sources have reported that Remy was seen at the Denny's on Maple at 4:00 AM still wearing the green jacket, telling patrons 'I'm on the tour'. Which tour he was referring to could not be confirmed. Remy was unavailable for comment at the time of publishing. If week one was any indication of how things are going to go over the next five weeks, I think we're in for a good time.
