Post-round write-ups from the commissioner

TONAWANDA, NY – The PIH League has found itself in the midst of a full-blown scandal this week as the Putters Bureau of Investigation (PBI), led by Ambassador Andy, has officially opened an inquiry into what’s being dubbed “The Neeson Crime Family.” Allegations of illegal gambling, rigged pairings, and advanced eyewear technology have rocked the once-respected league and left fans wondering: how the hell did Joe Neeson get good at putting?

The investigation gained momentum after Dave Donn was paired with John Coyle this week. On the very first hole, Coyle drained a beautiful hole-in-one — the kind of shot that demands a flag be thrown to celebrate the accomplishment. But Donn… didn’t. When questioned afterward, Donn claimed he “Bad eyes. Didn’t see it go in,” which is interesting considering multiple witnesses heard him yell, “Nice shot!” before conveniently looking away.

From there, the PBI began piecing together what they now call a pattern of corruption involving Neeson, brother-in-law Dave Donn, son Jake Donn, and Donn family "handler" Steve Wehr. According to The Bureau, the first sign of something suspicious occurred when Donn and Wehr posted identical 50’s — both dead last — and were awarded Red Flags. Since that fateful day, neither man has thrown a single flag, despite multiple opportunities. Investigators found this statistically unlikely and emotionally suspicious.

The second signal came when Neeson — long considered a middle-of-the-pack putter at best — suddenly finished near the top of the leaderboard while paired with these same individuals, posting an inexplicable 38-2. He called it “just good rhythm.” Investigators called it “mathematically insulting.” Things only got stranger when Neeson “pre-putted” with Jake Donn and again recorded an improbably low 38-1, prompting PBI agents to confiscate dome security footage to review footage of the supposed round.

When Neeson finally putted without any family member nearby, his game imploded. His worst round of the season raised eyebrows across the league, with one analyst noting, “How does a guy who sucks this bad suddenly turn into Tiger Woods when he’s with his family?” The numbers only deepened the mystery. Jake Donn has averaged 39-1 when partnered with family, 40-1 when pre-putting, and 39-1 when post-putting — but when officially putting under the lights, he crashed to a 43-0. As one PBI insider put it, “The numbers don’t lie… but the Donns might.”

Adding to the intrigue, several players have raised concerns about the eyewear commonly worn by the Neeson clan. Rumors suggest these glasses contain green-reading technology capable of calculating slope and distance. Ambassador Andy has since declared that no Neeson Crime Family member may wear glasses until the league conducts a full inspection. “If you can’t see the hole, you don’t deserve to make it,” he said at a hastily called press conference while shining a flashlight in Dave Donn’s eyes.

Meanwhile, in Actual Putting News...

While the PBI continues its investigation, John Coyle quietly picked up his 6th Green Jacket, tying Mike Mondoux for third on the all-time list. Only Jeff Luke and Tom Barbops, each with nine career jackets, sit ahead of him. When asked about the Neeson controversy, Coyle shrugged and said, “If Joe’s cheating, at least he’s finally contributing something to the league.”

Atop the FedEx standings, Chris Wilkinson continues to lead by four points over Coyle. Mondoux sits 18.25 points back, followed by Joe Neeson, who is 21.25 points behind but possibly facing disciplinary action pending the outcome of the PBI’s investigation. Rounding out the top eight are Tom Barbops, Alex Keil, Justin Bridenbaker, and Jeff Luke, who is reportedly lobbying to make the Pink Jacket a permanent weekly award “for brand consistency.”

In Teams competition, week-3 saw Team Wilkinson (Wilkinson, Fitzner, Terranova, and Caito) eliminated with a total score of 167-4. In week-4, Team Randles (Randles, S. VeRost, Pirson, and Wylke) was eliminated with a score of 171-2, losing out to Team Duffy by one hole in one.

Next week brings the PIH U.S. Open, the league’s second major of the season, worth 1.5 points. With extra points — and extra alcohol — on the line, chaos is inevitable. Expect leaderboard shuffling, arguments over rule interpretations, and at least one flag-related altercation.

As for the Neeson Crime Family, their future remains uncertain. Ambassador Andy promises a full report before Week 5, but one thing is clear: the league’s integrity is under siege, and the truth is somewhere between the Donns’ scorecards and the Neeson's eye glass case.
