Post-round write-ups from the commissioner
TONAWANDA, NY – Chaos, controversy, and credit card confusion reigned supreme at PIH this week as Scott VeRost stormed into a tie for first overall with a blistering 35-4 performance — which, frankly, shocked everyone who’s ever seen him putt.
VeRost (that’s Scott VeRost, obviously, as the other two VeRost’s have yet to sniff the leaderboard) followed up an impressive week one — where he skipped out on his winnings — by returning determined to take home what he rightfully earned. And this time, he did just that.

With back-to-back strong showings, VeRost climbed into a tie with John Coyle for the top spot in the league. However, when he learned he’d only receive the green jacket and not the championship belt — due to league rules stating the belt only transfers when another player takes sole possession of the lead — he was less than pleased.
“Coyle can have the belt, for now,” VeRost fumed. “I am the People Champion. The one the fans of the league come to see, not that jobber Coyle. Put him on notice. I’m coming for what’s rightfully mine.”
Things escalated quickly as VeRost continued his rant, declaring, “This league continues to be against me — against us — and I won’t stand for it any longer.”
When asked what he planned to do about it, he declared, “I’m going to Mexico and recruiting some real putters to join River Hoax. There’s an untapped market of talent down there, and I’ll find a way to get them here. These Grand Islanders have had their way since they booted me and my family off their team.”
It was clear VeRost still harbors deep animosity toward Team Grand Island, finishing his tirade with a not-so-subtle shot. “Those clowns led by the three stooges — Conschafter, Mondoux, and Coyle — are done. Coyle’s not even an Islander. The VeRosts are true islanders, and we’ll take back our island one putt at a time.”
When pressed further, Scott added cryptically, “We’re no Indians,” a historically questionable reference to Grand Island’s past that drew both gasps and laughter from the gallery.
When Brett and Mark VeRost were asked about their brother’s comments, they didn’t back down. “Hatfields and McCoys. Bloods and Crips. Islanders and VeRosts. This is war.”
When the so-called “Three Stooges” were asked for a response, Coyle, Mondoux, and Conschafter issued a joint statement that read simply “Who are the VeRost’s? Haven’t heard of them. Are they in the league?”
That comment will no doubt light a fire under the VeRost clan — though fans will have to wait for any on-course fireworks, as Scott is reportedly still in Mexico. His exact whereabouts remain unknown, and he has not been heard from since crossing the border. League officials say they’re “not worried,” but that’s what they said before he brought tequila to league night last year.
Other Notable Highlights
- Austin Brass, true to form, once again left his credit card at the bar — and possibly his dignity. He also left his game at home, limping to a 46. Witnesses say the bartender has now instituted a “Brass Tax” — a 100% tip automatically applied to any open tab left at the end of the night.
- Jeff Luke strutted out with the coveted Pink Jacket, which he immediately wore to Taco Bell. Sources report he loudly demanded “a table in the VIP section,” before being escorted out for attempting to autograph the menu.
- Kim Schmoyer technically “won” the week’s Red Flag, but failed to appear at the green jacket ceremony — ironically fitting. Her flag remains unclaimed.
With Coyle clinging to the belt and VeRost self-proclaiming as “The People’s Champion,” the rivalry has reached nuclear levels. Grand Island vs. River Hoax is no longer a friendly competition — it’s a full-blown saga of betrayal, tequila, and missed three-footers.
Week 3 promises drama, drinks, and possibly an international incident when (or if) VeRost returns from Mexico.
